9 Times Bollywood Actors Clashed With Themselves At Box Office

“I don’t compete with anybody but myself,” is what a star would say when asked about his/her box office competition. However when it comes to fighting an opponent at box office, the analogy is left being nothing but a joke! Anyway, while actors make sure there’s ample amount of space between two of their releases, there’s only so much they can do to make this possible.

Did you know two out of three Diwali releases in 2005 were directed by the same man? Akshay Kumar’s Garam Masala and Salman Khan’s Kyon Ki were both directed Priyadarshan and released on the same day. While this was a rare occasion when a filmmaker clashed with himself, we churned out some previous filmographies to see if actors ever clashed with themselves. As it turned out, not only did we find quite a few names in history, Taapsee Pannu will be seen as a female lead in two different movies this Friday.

So here are 7 of those occasions when Bollywood stars clashed with themselves:

Taapsee Pannu

The Ghazi Attack & Running Shaadi (17^th February 2017)

While she is riding high on the response to the trailer of her film Naam Shabana, Taapsee Pannu will now be seen in two films that will lock horns with each other. While The Ghazi Attack is the first Indian movie to be made on a naval war, Running Shaadi is a light hearted drama opposite Amit Sadh.

Narendra Jha

Kaabil & Raees (26^th January 2017)

One of the biggest clashes in the recent times saw a much noticed actor in both the movies. Actor Narendra Jha who played the crucial role of a police officer in Kaabil was also seen as a Mumbai gangster in SRK’s Raees.

 Phir Hera Pheri & Chup Chup Ke (9^th June 2006)

One of the funniest Fridays in Bollywood was to be this special one in 2006 when two rib ticklers opned against each other. With a similar genre of comedy, not only did Phir Hera Pheri and Chup Chup Ke overlap each other on most occasions, the cast was also largely identical. One of them being Suniel Shetty who was a lead in Phir Hera Pheri and also happened to be prominent cast member of Chup Chup Ke!

On one hand it was Priyadarshan who cannot visualize a comedy without him and on the other was a sequel to his most iconic comedy ever. How could Paresh Rawal not be in both the movies? Well to what it’s worth, the actor didn’t disappoint and was equally funny in both his roles.

Phir Hera Pheri & Chup Chup Ke (9^th June 2006)

Another fine performer finding himself in both decks of the ship was Rajpal Yadav. While he believes Chup Chup Ke to be one of the most satisfying performances ever, how lovely was he in Phir Hera Pheri! Back in the day, it was almost impossible to craft a comedy without this little man.

Rimi Sen

Garam Masala & Kyon Ki (Diwali 2005)

This Diwali was special as it saw a triangular fight between Garam Masala, Kyon Ki and Shadi No. 1! Rimi Sen as luck would have it was a part of both Garam Masala and Kyon Ki. Directed by Priyadarshan, while she was opposite Akshay Kumar in Garam Masala, it was Salman Khan who she was paired with in Kyon Ki.

Sanjay Dutt

All The Best & Blue (Diwali 2009)

Once again on a Diwali that had a triangular fight, Sanjay Dutt could do nothing about averting a clash between two of his major movies All The Best and Blue. While one was an action thriller, the other was an out and out Rohit Shetty comedy.

Dil Chahta Hai & Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke (10^th August 2001)

We wonder what Preity would have felt about this one. While on one hand she was part of a movie that redefined Indian cinema in a lot of ways, the other was something that even she wouldn’t remember herself. The actress on August 10^th in 2001 was seen in Farhan Akhtar’s Dil Chahta Hai opposite Aamir and on opposite front was torn in a love triangle between Madhuri Dixit and Ajay Devgn.

Raabta & Behen Hogi Teri - 9th June 2017

The actor has time and again proved his sincerity and this time he really exprimented and took it up a notch. He has an impeccable comic time that stood out in the romantic comedy Behen Hogi Teri while he played a 324 year old man in Raabta. Two very different characters clashed at the box office on the same date.
