Simran Or Lucknow Central? Guess Which Film Won The Box Office Battle!
Updated : September 18, 2017 11:50 AM ISTThe close box office battle that was expected to take place at the ticket counters this week shaped exactly the way we had thought. While both Simran and Lucknow Central submitted similar kind of figures, the biggest takeaway was limited number of footfalls through the weekend.
The Kangana Ranaut starrer did stay in the lead but with a mixed word of mouth, it was 5 crores short. Given a significant pre-release buzz and dependency on Kangana in the lead, the film opened well with 2.77 crores on Friday and got the number up at 4.12 crores on Sunday. The Hansal Mehta film is currently at 10.65 crores.
#Simran needs to maintain on weekdays for a respectable total... Fri 2.77 cr, Sat 3.76 cr, Sun 4.12 cr. Total: ₹ 10.65 cr. India biz.

On the other hand, the Farhan Akhtar starrer jail drama had to bear the brunt of negative word of mouth and could not really see the kind of escalation it needed. With such a star cast and a mainstream feel to it, the film needed to deliver collections at least in the range of 12-15 crores. However, the Ranjit Tiwari directorial couldn’t really take off. The film opened to a low 2.04 crores on Friday and did see a considerable growth over Saturday and Sunday. The film currently stands at 8.42 crores after its opening weekend.
#LucknowCentral is now dependent on weekdays biz for a decent total... Fri 2.04 cr, Sat 2.82 cr, Sun 3.56 cr. Total: ₹ 8.42 cr. India biz.

Both these movies would now need to sustain well on the weekdays to enter the safe zone. Given the kind of reactions both Simran and Lucknow Central have garnered, it’s not going to be easy. With a number of fresh releases slated for this Friday, both movies have a restricted window of opportunity.
On the other hand, Shubh Mangal Saavdhan continued to do well and has touched the 40 crore mark at the box office.
