Diljit Dosanjh's Soorma Looks Like The Hockey Movie We Were Waiting For

In India, sports films often get a mixed reception from the audiences as they prefer to go for the masala potboilers Bollywood notoriously serves. But, every now and then, there comes a film with the backdrop of sports, which manages to enthrall the nation. Shah Rukh Khan's Chak De India, Salman Khan's Sultan and Aamir Khan's Dangal come to mind when we think of successful sports films.

As the industry is going through a changing phase and the audience is becoming mature and giving chances to content-oriented films, this seems like the perfect time to release films based on different genres. Bunty Aur Babli director Shaad Ali brings us Soorma, the greatest comeback ever from the field of Hockey. The trailer just hit the internet and Diljit Dosanjh seems to be the perfect choice to play the Indian Captain on-screen. Here's the trailer breakdown:

Sandeep Singh: Soorma is a biographical drama based on the life of ex-Indian Hockey team Captain Sandeep Singh who is considered one of the most influential hockey players of the modern era. He is known for his drag flicks and is a penalty corner specialist. At the beginning of the trailer, we are shown a young Sandeep who has no interest in hockey.

Life's goal: Things take a turn when he meets Taapsee Pannu's Harpreet, who is already a professional Hockey player an in order to impress her, Sandeep starts practicing Hockey in order to play for India and win her heart. 

The struggle: Everyone around Sandeep ridicules him that his attempts to become a Hockey player are a fluke and even age is not on his side. But with his hard work and determination, Sandeep manages to complete his dream and play for India.

The tragedy: Sandeep's life took a shocking turn when he was accidentally shot on a train after coming back from the World Cup and he was paralyzed below the waist and stayed in the wheelchair for 2 years. Everyone told him that he won't be able to play Hockey again.

The rise of the Phoenix: But, with his sheer strength, determinations, and support from his family and friends, he came back and led India to win in 2009 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup and also helped the team to book an Olympic berth at 2012 Olympics. 

Supporting Cast: The film features a terrific supporting cast which included Vijay Raaz, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Satish Kaushik and Angad Bedi. Angad plays Sandeep's elder brother Bikram who was a pillar of support for him.
