A number of projects are constantly in development often with different talents working on them at the same time. Sometimes, Hollywood has also ended up making films on the same topic.

The major reason for this is the exodus of creative talent from one production house to the other who was developing a certain project. Also, sometimes the source material remains the same and many studios take the liberty and tweak the source material. This also has an effect on a film's box-office performance. The Prestige and The Illusionist (2006): The Christopher Nolan directed The Prestige earned 109 Million USD while the Edward Norton starrer earned 87 Million USD. Both the films were received well by the critics and the audiences. 

Volcano and Dante's Peak (1997): Both the films were based on the same topic and Volcano earned 122 Million USD and Dante's Peak collected 178 Million USD. Dante's Peak was called as more scientifically accurate while Volcano received negative reviews. 

Olympus Has Fallen and White House Down (2013): Both the films featured on the White House coming under attack from terrorists and a secret agent who saves the President. Olympus earned 170 Million USD and White House Down collected 205 Million USD.

Friends With Benefits and No Strings Attached (2011): Both films focused on the same topic where the friends keep it casual with sexual benefits and Friends with Benefits earned 149 Million USD while No Strings Attached earned 150 Million USD.

Mirror Mirror and Snow White & the Huntsman (2012): Both were based on the legend of Snow White and Tarsem Sing directed Mirror Mirror earned 183 Million USD while Kristen Stewart starrer Huntsman earned 396 Million USD.

A Bug's Life and Antz (1998): Antz came under heavy attack from Disney who had just acquired Pixar and Dreamworks' new CEO who had just left Pixar was said to have stolen the idea for Antz from A Bug's Life. Antz earned 171 Million USD and A Bug's Life earned 363 Million USD.

First Daughter and Chasing Liberty (2004): Both films were based on the same topic, the President's daughter gives her security detail a slip in order to live a normal life and falls in love. First Daughter earned 10 Million USD and Chasing Liberty collected 23 Million USD.

Deep Impact and Armageddon (1998): Both film focused on an asteroid threatening the existence of human life on earth. Deep Impact earned 349 Million USD while Michael Bay directed Armageddon earned 553 Million USD.

Jobs (2013) and Steve Jobs (2015): Both were biopics on Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. The Ashton Kutcher starrer Jobs earned 35 Million USD and Michael Fassbender starrer Steve Jobs earned 34 Million USD. 

Hercules and Legend of Hercules (2014): Both movies were based on the Roman hero and God Hercules. Dwayne Johnson starrer Hercules earned 244 Million USD and the Kellan Lutz starrer Legend of Hercules collected 61 Million USD.
