5 Bollywood Actors You Didn't Know Have Won The Prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award

The Awards are named after the legendary Dadasaheb Phalke, referred to as the Father of Cinema in India. He made the first feature film of India, Raja Harishchandra apart from a number of other films. The Government of India in 1969 introduced the Awards in his honor and the recipient is awarded for outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema.
Legends like Dev Anand, Yash Chopra, Shashi Kapoor, Manoj Kumar are among the few celebs who have been bestowed with the honor. But, in recent times, we have seen a number of copycat award functions taking over as well. Even Dadasaheb Phalke Award is given through two different routes. One is Dadasaheb Phalke Film Foundation Award and the other is Dadasaheb Phalke excellence Award. Ranveer Singh will be given the Dadasaheb Phalke Excellence Award for the Best Actor in Padmaavat.

Sikander Kher: The actor who hasn't been a part of a successful Bollywood film won the Dadasaheb Phalke Excellence Award for the Best Actor for his role in Tere Bin Laden 2. This is from the year when Aamir starred in Dangal, Sushant Singh Rajput in MS Dhoni biopic and Shahid Kapoor in Udta Punjab.
Sooraj Pancholi & Athiya Shetty: The pair made their Bollywood debut in Salman Khan produced Hero which turned out to be a box-office disaster. But, the pair won the Dadasaheb Phalke Excellence Award for Best Debut Pair.
Aarya Babbar: The actor shifted base to Punjab and starred in numerous successful Punjabi films after his Bollywood career failed to take off. He also ventured in TV and starred in Sankat Mochan Mahabali Hanuman for which he won Dabasaheb Phalke Film Foundation's Best Debut Artist Award.
Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Insan: The Godman also starred in numerous films and took on the responsibilities of acting, singing, lyrics writing, script writing, action-direction, producing etc. He won the Dadasaheb Phalke Film Foundation Award for Most Popular Actor, Writer, and Director.
