When we look at how actresses get reported in media, it is not difficult to spot the regressive and sexist our ways are. Irrelevant, inconsequential and often trivializing people are more bothered about bizarre things when it comes to actresses. From pregnancy to settling down, here are 5 things that people need to stop being bothered about Bollywood actresses.

We understand it’s a joyous occasion when your beloved stars are about to embark on the journey of parenthood, but what we often forget that it is also a deeply personal and intimate for the couple. The amount of hoopla that surrounds the pregnancy details of actresses is simply too much. From their pregnancy wardrobe to weight gain and weight loss, the media glare on these issues is unbelievable. Above all, pregnancy speculations are one common practice that might often lead to serious invasion of privacy. Can we please let the actresses choose what and when they want to share their utmost personal details? And while we are at it, can we also stop asking them questions about when they would want to start a family? None of our business really!

Well, you know what slip-ups happen and there is no need to make a big deal about it. Adjusting clothes or a slight mishap with a gown or a dupatta is not something that should make it to front page headlines. Unless they are superhumans, it’s not possible for any human being to not to have a wardrobe malfunction moment and its embarrassing enough even if it does not become the topic of national discourse. This is one question that pisses off many actresses to no end. First of all, what does settling down even mean? Who is a cloud of dust that needs to settle down? But jokes apart, the idea that a woman, no matter how successful she is in her career, needs to have ‘settling down’ on the cards is regressive and how. Funnily enough, apart from Salman Khan, people are not really bothered about when male actors ‘settle down’ and they are rarely asked this question, whereas this is one common question that is asked to every unmarried actress in every ‘candid’ interview

We are glad that we have progressed from the time when marriage meant the death of an actress’ career. Actresses like Kareena, Aishwarya and recently even Anushka have proved that there is no correlation between their marriage and career. However, it is really annoying when an actress doing a film after her marriage or even coming to screen after a short hiatus is termed as a ‘comeback’. Aamir Khan might choose not to do a film for 3 years and can do a film without it being tagged as a comeback but if an actress does the same, it immediately becomes her ‘comeback’ film. Logic, anyone?
