As India is the country with the 2nd largest population in the world, there are people who are associated with different religions, caste, political parties and professional groups. This makes it difficult for Bollywood films sometimes to effectively showcase the stories on the big screen as various groups protest against the film.
No matter what genre the film belongs to, religious groups, political outfits, self-styled godmen and various unions take offence to the title of the film, songs, character references and decide to stage protests, press conferences where they sometimes announce bounties on the film's cast and crew. While CBFC is the only authority when it comes to certifying a film, sometimes, films have been shown to these authorities as well for their smooth release. Here are 7 such films:
Singh is Kinng: The Akshay Kumar starrer drew ire of the SGPC and other Sikh communities from Delhi and the film was shown to heads of these groups for their smooth release.
Billu: The Shahrukh Khan-Irrfan Khan starrer was earlier titles Billu Barber but after the barber associations from all over the country protested against the film, the film was shown to salon & beauty parlour association of Bandra and Hairdressers association of Mumbai for its release.
Singh is Bliing: The Akshay Kumar starrer was causing controversy over the portrayal of Sikhs and was shown to prominent members of the SGPC committee in Delhi and Amritsar before its release.
Jodha Akbar: The Ashutosh Gowariker directorial was at the centre of controversy ever since it was announced. Various Rajput groups and fringe political outfits protested against the film and the film was shown to heads of these outfits for its release.
Jo Bole So Nihal: The film triggered controversies before its release and there were violent protests against the film's release. It was shown to various heads of Sikh and Gurudwara committees before its release.
Padmavati: The Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial was the most controversial film of 2017 and will now release in January 2018. It was shown to prominent members of Rajput families as well as leading historians from Jaipur before its release.
