Updated : November 23, 2017 05:53 PM ISTBollywood is one of the largest film producing industries in the world and every year it produces films on various scales in different genres. A number of films are produced on an expensive budget starring some of the biggest names in the industries be it the Khans, Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan or youngsters like Varun Dhawan, Ranveer Singh or Ranbir Kapoor etc.
In the recent years, we have seen a trend where small budgeted films are becoming sleeper hits and some content oriented films going on to become some of the highest earners of the year. The age of content is here and a good word of mouth definitely helps a film's fate. Films like Vicky Donor, Jolly LLB, Bareilly Ki Barfi, and Dum Laga Ke Haisha became sleeper hits because of the word of mouth.
But, it's not always when the good word of mouth works, though it should as the films that have a positive buzz around them must be given a watch. Here are 7 Bollywood films that flopped despite getting a good word of mouth:
Haraamkhor: The Nawazuddin Siddiqui-Shweta Tripathi starrer was one of the first releases of this year and received positive critical acclaim from all sides. Yet, with a good word of mouth, the film tanked at the box office and grossed only 2.27 Crores at the box office.
Poorna: Courage Has No Limit: The Rahul Bose directorial that starred himself and Aditi Inamdar in the lead roles flopped despite getting warm appreciation from the critics as well as at film festivals. The film was based on the life of Malavath Poorna, the youngest girl to climb Mt. Everest.
Anaarkali Of Aarah: The Avinash Das directorial received widespread critical acclaim and word of mouth from the audiences and Swara Bhaskar's performance as the titular Anarkali was singled out. Still, the movie tanked by earning 1.07 Crores.
Parched: The Leena Yadav directorial received universal critical acclaim and won many awards on the international circuit. Yet, the film tanked in India despite getting a good word of mouth and earned 1.43 Crores.
Masaan: The Neeraj Ghaywan directorial received widespread acclaim nationally and internationally but the positive buzz didn't help the film's box office collections which stopped at 3.80 Crores.
