18 Years and Counting- Why I Love Abhishek Bachchan Unapologetically As An Actor

Being a debutante in Bollywood is not easy. A lot of money, lot of expectations and hopes of a lot of people all come in a package with stepping into Bollywood. Star kids, although enjoy a certain inherent advantage in this regard, but the pressure on them to succeed increases manifold. It was with this humongous pressure J.P.Dutta launched two of the debutants from two of the biggest families in Bollywood. One was the next generation of the most illustrated family in Bollywood and other was the son of the superstar of the millennium.  The year was 2000, the film was Refugee and the debutants were Kareena Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan . Since then Kareena Kapoor has managed to climb all the possible stairs of stardom and Abhishek Bachchan has remained somewhat of a debatable topic.

It is not that the man had no talent or acting abilities, but sometimes his choice of script and sometimes sheer bad luck, has been the villain of his career. For the naysayers who challenged his acting abilities he proved his mettle as an actor in films such as ‘ Yuva ’, ‘Guru’and ‘Sarkar’ and many other. When it came to mainstream success he also tasted the same with films such as ‘ Dhoom ’ franchise, ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ and ‘ Dostana ’. What could have been a well-balanced career turned out to be a bumpy ride.

When most of his contemporaries were taking the safe route, he showed courage in taking up scripts such as ‘Bluffmaster’ and ‘ Delhi- 6’ in crucial stages in his career. However, he has also made some blunders in his career namely ‘Drona’, ‘Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon’,‘Game’ and ‘ Players ’ which are some of the so-bad-that-its-good classics. But even some of the most successful actor would have some of them in their career.

He with some his performance brought a style that was unique. He consciously tried to step out the shadows of his superstar father, which was surely a bold move. In fact, with the on-going dialogue on nepotism, Abhishek Bachchan is a perfect case study for understanding the other side of the story. Being Amitabh Bachchan 's son proved to be more of a bane than a boon for him. What people conveniently chose to ignore was he was just another newcomer on whom the pressure of replicating the success of a legend was grossly unfair. People perhaps wanted to re-live the young Amitabh Bachchan through him, but here was somebody who tried to be first Abhishek Bachchan and not a second Amitabh Bachchan.
