The last two years have been special for Bollywood in many ways. From stars tanking at the box office, to small movies with no star but relevant content doing well, it has changed the face of Bollywood. But more than anything else, Bollywood has been all about controversies these two years. From Udta Punjab to Padmavat, the last two years have really taught us many lessons about the limitations of chosing the subject or content of a film. Here are 5 things that Bollywood taught us not make movies on, if they want a hassle free release.

Anything and Everything Historical

No matter how much we talk about it, nothing seems to comprehend the the madness surrounding Padmavat. Firstly whether Padmavati is histirical or not is a debate that has been going on. But the carnage that has now become synonymous with the film, teaches us that one should not take up historical characters to make a film on. Which is perhaps a good thing given we have a history of screwing up with historical facts (remember Mohenjodaro?).  

Real Problems In Real Places

You know what is the best way to deal with a problem that has been ravaging the population of an entire state? If CBFC is anything to go by, then the solution is not addressing it. Because apparently when you make a film on the drug menace of a region, instead of bringing the problem into forefront and into the public discourse, it tends to offend the people of the state. So why make sensible movies on real problems when you can go on making nonsensical films that earns 100 crore, right?

‘Lady Oriented’ Films

If you are an aspiring filmmaker who wants his movie to see the light of the day, make no mistake and make sure your movie is not ‘lady oriented’. No we don’t know what is that supposed to mean and how is it a problem that can create a huge ruckus in getting it released, but that is how it is.

Real Relationships

Given how films such as Babumoshai Bandookbaaz , Aligarh and many other films that showed relationships in the real world had to go through a grind to get released it is advisable that films in India are better off not showing intimacy or gender norm bending romances because India is a country where couple do not engage in any sexual activities and LGBTQ, what on the earth is that?

One of the best ways to have a hassle free release now in India is to have an advertisemnet of patriotism instead of a film. Given how ‘cleanest’ of the films can run into trouble for reasons best known to scissor happy protectors of morality, this is the easiest and perhaps the only way to have a smooth, battle free release in Bollywood now. And don’t you even think of making a film that challenges the popular notions of patriotism. Also, make sure that the ‘advertisements’ do not have any actors from our neighbouring country, Pakistan, unless you have a few extra crores to shed, because that compensates for this supposed anti-national act
