It seems like only yesterday that we started this new year. The excitement of Tiger Zinda Hai was hardly over when Bollywood delighted us with Padmaavat. Since then, it has only been an upward climb for Bollywood.

The year 2018 has more than compensated for last year’s content crisis in Bollywood and has truly reflected the changing dynamics within the industry and between the industry and audience.

While 2018 will always be a year of celebration of cinema at it best in Bollywood, here are some reasons why 2018 is going to be one of the most memorable years in Bollywood.

The Khan Debacle

For years, Aamir, Shah Rukh and Salman, the holy trinity of Hindi cinema have been the name behind the most successful films of the year. However, this year things changed and how. Some of the biggest hits of the year including Padmaavat, Sanju, Raazi, Badhaai Ho and Stree did not have Khans in them. But that’s not the amazing part. The mind-numbing part is that 2018 will forever be remembered as the year in which all the three Khans delivered only disappointments. Instead of being the biggest hits of the year, Race 3, Thugs of Hindostan and Zero were all the biggest disappointments of the year.

The Me Too Movement

This is probably the most the episode with the highest amount of historical significance that happened this year in Bollywood. As Tanushree Dutta set the ball rolling in her explosive interview, the Hindi film industry has been turned upside down with the storm of #metoo movement that swept through it. Many survivors have come forward and narrated harrowing accounts which have held a lot of popular celebs in Bollywood accountable. The movement, which was perhaps long overdue, has truly made the industry go through a purge if sorts and everyone is hopeful that Hindi film industry will become a much safer place to work after the purge.

Unprecedented Number of Weddings

Celebrities in Bollywood this year conspired to keep entertainment journalists on their toes constantly it seems. It started off with Sonam Kapoor’s big, fat Punjabi wedding and we were delighted to see the entire Bollywood come together under one roof to celebrate. But, since then weddings in Bollywood have not stopped. From Deepika and Ranveer’s wedding to Nick and Priyanka’s wedding and of course the entire Bollywood getting together for the mind-numbingly extravagant wedding of Isha Ambani, the number of weddings this year was unprecedented and after a point a little overwhelming.

Unbelievable Number of 100 Crore Films

Most pundits of the industry and trade agreed that 2017 was not only a bad year for content in Hindi films but it was also tragic in terms of footfalls and of course box-office. Thus 2017 saw only a handful of really successful films. However, 2018 has changed all of that. With around 12 films in the 100 crore club and films like Padmaavat and Sanju being in the 300 club and many other films crossing70-80 crores, Bollywood has more than recovered from the disappointment that was 2017.

Year Of Successful Debuts and Breakthrough Performances

This year has proven to be lucky for newcomers as well. Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor and Sara Ali Khan have become instant superstars with their debuts. The year has also been kind to a lot of actor like Shahid, Deepika, Ranbir, Ranveer who have the biggest hits of their lives this year. It has also put actors like Vicky Kaushal, Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani on the map.
