Panipat Trailer: Arjun, Kriti And Sanjay Dutt Pack A Solid Punch Despite The Inescapable Comparisons With Bajirao Mastani And Padmaavat
Panipat Trailer Breakdown
Updated : November 05, 2019 02:07 PM ISTFrom Arjun Kapoor pumping up for the role to Sanjay Dutt as an antagonist and above all Ashutosh Gowariker coming back as a director after almost three years, Panipat was quite the talked about movie this year. Based on the third battle of Panipat in 1761 fought between the forces of invader Ahmed Shah Abdali and the Maratha forces led by Sadashiv Rao Bhau, Gowariker is channeling his love period dramas with this one as well.
The film is all set to hit the theatres on 6th December and would be clashing with Kartik Aaryan, Ananya Pandey and Bhumi Pednekar starrer Pati Patni Aur Woh. Here are our takeaways from the trailer.
Massive Canvas

Ashutosh Gowariker might share his love for grand canvas with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, but they have a very distinct approach when it comes to executing the same. Though in this one Gowariker seems a little more inclined toward Bhansali’s vision and grandeur, it still has the massive canvas he is known for. Especially the war and action sequences are something to watch out for.
Interesting Casting Choices

Gowariker has made some interesting casting choices for the film. Arjun Kapoor might not be the most obvious or popular choice for the role, but it is evident that he worked really hard and is doing justice to the role. Kriti Sanon is also doing a fine job but it is really Sanjay Dutt who is taking the limelight here. One can definitely expect another Kancha Cheena level of performance from him in the film. From his heavy frame to his body language, there could not have been a better casting choice for Ahmed Shah
Abdali.
Inescapable Comparisons
Panipat Trailer: Arjun, Kriti and Sanjay Dutt Packs A Solid Punch Despite The Inescapable Comparisons With Bajirao Mastani And Padmaavat
From the general vibe to the story the comparisons with Bajirao Mastaani is inescapable here. Yes thing look a little too similar but one has to cut the makers some slack because it is after all the story of Maratha warriors who spoke and dressed a certain way. In fact, the similarities are subtly addressed in the trailer itself when Kriti’s character mentions Mastaani. Even Sanjay Dutt’s avatar is sure to be compared with Ranveer Singh Khilji avatar in Padmaavat, but again there are similarities between Abdali and Khilji in terms of their frame, cruelty and even place of origin, so it would be a little too harsh to call this a discounted version of Padmaavat and Bajirao Mastani but there would be some who would do it nevertheless.
Lack Of Chemistry

Although individually they seem to be doing a good job, Arjun Kapoor and Kriti Sanon who have been paired opposite each other for the first time lack certain chemistry. The trailer has very few shots of them together, but it would probably not be the strongest aspect of the film.
Solid Supporting Cast

The film is bringing together an assembly of supporting cast that is fairly unique. From Mohnish Behl to Padmini Kolhapure and especially Zeenat Aman, all are coming back to screen after quite a long time and we can wait to see what magic these yesteryear stars bring about.
