Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao make a video appearance together after announcing divorce: "We are happy & we are one family"

Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao announced their decision to get divorced after 15 years of marriage on Saturday. They released a joint statement to the press and said that they would live separately but continue to –co-parent son Azad Rao Khan. The Bollywood star and filmmaker have now appeared together in a video and assured fans that their relationship might be changing but they are very much family for each other.

“Aap logon ko dukh hua hoga, acha nahi laga hoga, shock laga hoga. Hum log dono bas aapko itni kehna chahte hain ki hum bohot kush hain aur hum ek hi parivaar hai.( You must have felt sad, must be feeling and shocked too. We just want to say that we are happy and we are one family).”

Holding Kiran’s hand Aamir added, “Humare rishtey mein change aaya hai par hum log ek dusre ke saathi hain (Our relationship might be changing but we are partners).”

Talking about the Paani Foundation which they have both started together, Aamir added that it is like their son Azad to them and added, “Hum log humesha family hi raheinge, toh aap log humare liya dua kariye, prarthana kariye ki hum khush ho, bas yahi kehna tha humko. (we will always remain family so we just request you to pray that we stay happy.)"

"In these 15 beautiful years together we have shared a lifetime of experiences, joy and laughter, and our relationship has only grown in trust, respect and love. Now we would like to begin a new chapter in our lives - no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents and family for each other. We began a planned separation some time ago, and now feel comfortable to formalise this arrangement, of living separately yet sharing our lives the way an extended family does," the former couple stated in their joint statement to the press on Saturday.

Aamir and Kiran tied the knot in 2005 and have a son Azad Rao Khan who is 9.
