Akshay Kumar On His Back To Back Successes - "My Career May Be Going In My Favor, But I Can't Take My Eye Off The Ball"
Akshay Kumar On His Back To Back Successes
Updated : November 08, 2019 12:00 PM IST10 back to back successes and good to excellent opening for each of his three releases so far in 2019 (Kesari, Mission Mangal, Housefull 4) - Akshay Kumar is indeed having the time of his life when it comes to the movies. As a matter of fact even as Housefull 4 is running in theaters, he is already gearing up for his next release Good Newwz which is releasing around Christmas this year. Meanwhile, 2020 is already looking quite exciting with Sooryavanshi, Laxmmi Bomb, Prithviraj Chauhan and Bachchan Pandey lined up for release.
For now though, it is about Housefull 4 where Akshay Kumar has demonstrated his trademark comic timing all over again. Aimed at children, the film is working quite well with the target audiences with Akshay Kumar impressing one and all with his facial expressions, mannerisms and body language. Moreover, he has also experimented with his look in a major way with as many as three different looks on display.
Considering the fact that he is enjoying his time in front of the camera for Housefull 4, which part did he personally enjoy doing more in Housefull 4? The one in the 1400s or the current times?
Says Akshay, "I personally enjoyed my 'London Barber' look the most, purely because it was comfortable and quirky. However, the look that I will respect for the rest of my career is my 1400's look, despite the agony of having to wear a bald cap and perform in very heavy detailed attire."
He also shares insight into who really designed this look.
"I will cherish the look that we created and the exquisite detail made by an old school friend of mine, Rimple, and her husband Harpreet Narula. They did such a fabulous job with all our period looks. They enhanced our characters and made us feel like we were Kings & Queens, even when we weren’t. That said, I think Chunky Pandey's look is the most iconic and Bobby Deol has never looked so hot," smiles Akshay.
As for his brilliant run so far, he recently hit the peak with Mission Mangal, his highest grosser till date which also brought him into the 200 Crore Club. Doesn't he find it amazing that he is gathering critical acclaim as well as commercial success with many of his films of late?
"Yes, it’s very rare to be rewarded with success and critical acclaim for the same film," acknowledges Akshay, "This is something that doesn’t come around very often, but feels unbelievable when it does. What I am experiencing right now, I have never had in this lifetime. Still, has my life changed? No. Have I lost myself? No. Have I missed a deadline or become too big for my boots? No."
He reiterates that striking a balance is the key to success.
"Always remember that the pendulum swings both ways. My career may be going in my favor right now, but not for a second can I take my eye off the ball, for no one ever knows what’s around the corner or who’s going to throw what at you next. The more grounded you are, the less it hurts next time you fall. Even when you are riding high, stay low, in fact stay as low as you can go because gravity hurts when you are out of control. Just keep your head down and stay low," says Akshay in a humble tone before signing off.
