Updated : March 25, 2020 08:48 AM ISTOn Tuesday 24th March, our honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a 21-day long nationwide lockdown as an important step to help stop the spread of novel coronavirus. This curfew began at 12 am on 25th March and is the need of the hour to combat the escalating outbreak that has taken over the entire world, leaving all citizens in a state of panic. Many Bollywood celebrities praised the decision and extended their support, requesting fans to stay at home.

Superstar Amitabh Bachchan shared a picture of himself with folded hands along with an image of the Indian map which has a big lock on it, whereas heartthrob Kartik Aaryan posted a funny meme to connect with the younger generation. They urged their followers to stay at home and stay safe. Shahid Kapoor also shared a motivational post giving his followers tips on how to pass their free time. He wrote: “Each one of us can make a difference. We are all in this together. Spread good vibes only. #thisshallpasstoo.”

So far, India has reported over 519 confirmed positive cases including 10 deaths. PM Modi requested the citizens of the country to stay at home and also warned that if India does not “handle these 21 days well, then our country... will go backwards by 21 years”.
