Deepika Padukone is one of those celebs who have actually come out and talked about depression. In India, majority of the population suffers from depression and mental illness, but there has been a taboo around this topic. Deepika has been one of the first celebs to have come out and openly talked about how she suffered from depression and how difficult her struggle had been. In fact, she has also started the Live Love Laugh Foundation that aims to educate people about depression.

In a recent interview for Vogue, Deepika opened up, yet again, about her struggles with depression, and while talking about the issue, also reacted to Salman Khan’s comments on the same. Talking to the magazine, the actress said:
“The word that best describes my experience of depression is struggle. Every second was a struggle. I felt exhausted the whole time.”

Then talking about Salman Khan’s comment, she said:
“People confuse it with being a bit sad. A male star said recently that he didn’t have the luxury to be depressed. As if depression is a choice!”
Recently, during an interview, Salman Khan had said,
"I see a lot of people going on vacations, but I cannot afford that luxury of taking a vacation. I see a lot of people getting depressed and emotional, but I can't afford that luxury of being depressed or sad or emotional because no matter what I am going through, it works against me."
