Soumitra Chatterjee, who had collaborated with director Satyajit Ray for as many as 14 films, had developed COVID-19 complications after testing positive on October 6th. He had been battling for his life in a city hospital. He had received plasma therapy and was stable before his condition deteriorated and became grim. He was no longer responding to treatments. A statement from the hospital read, “We declare with a heavy heart that Shri Soumitra Chattopadhyay breathed his last at 12:15 pm at Belle Vue Clinic today. We pay our homage to his soul.” May his soul rest in peace.
