Exclusive: Divya Dutta Feels Star Kids Have Bigger Pressures, Says Not Nepotism But Favoritism Is Practised In Bollywood
Divya Talks About Rejections In Her Career
Updated : July 21, 2020 01:13 PM ISTSushant Singh Rajput’s sudden demise has conjured up a storm in Bollywood. Many actors and actresses have come out in the open to share their stories of struggle while still being divided on the practice of nepotism in the industry. Netizens have been trolling celebrities for harbouring and practicing nepotism in the film industry while seeking justice for the actor's death.
When we spoke to actress Divya Dutta on the topic, she told us, one cannot generalise about a particular industry. “All kinds of people live in the world. One cannot compartmentalise.”
She was candid in revealing that favouritism is prevalent in the industry adding that many outsiders are also favoured. She explains, “we live in an ambitious place and I wouldn’t call it nepotism, I would call it favouritism. There are a lot of outsiders who have been favoured too. Star kids might get an easier break but at the end of the day, they have bigger pressures. We take more time to get the ideal break but I guess we are all on the same level of being judged by the audience and at the end of the day, people decide who they like and who they don’t.”
Divya made her debut with Ishq Mein Jeena Ishq Mein Marna in the year 1994 and she is still going strong. In the course of our conversation she further shed light on the rejections she faced and how she handled it, “My journey has been going on since a good 25 years and it is still going strong. I have had major rejections; I have been thrown out of projects but I always had a conviction of not giving up something that I really want so that I get it my way. It took time, it didn’t happen overnight. I had to work and pick the best that I got and make it so good that people noticed me. I had to make it happen for myself because there was nobody else. So, it was a tough journey and the tougher it was, I had a broader smile and today, when I look back, I say, ‘I did it myself’.”
