Exclusive: Falguni Patel Says Avrodh: The Siege Within Is No Propaganda, ‘Rather A Story Needed To Be Told’
Falguni Patel Says Avrodh Is No Propaganda
Updated : August 10, 2020 09:35 PM ISTAvrodh: The Siege Within has been produced by Irada Entertainment and Applause Entertainment. The show has been garnering a lot of praise since it started streaming on Sony LIV. We at Desimartini exclusively got in touch with Irada Entertainment’s Falguni Patel to delve deeper into the making of the series.
Because Avrodh is based on the Indian Military, the intelligentsia is pretty concerned about the information that is being made public and hence they have now asked for a NOC to be obtained before making any content on the military.
Falguni is one with the idea because according to her, making content on the forces is a huge gambit and a lot is at stake, “There is a great responsibility when we recreate real incidents on-screen like we did in Avrodh. The legitimacy lies in the details and we thrive to get it right. The NOC criteria have come up quite recently, in the interest of the image of the defense forces being portrayed on screen and to protect the sentiments which we respect. We understand the responsibility and sensitivity and would await formal guidelines in the matter,” she told us.
The producer also spoke about the accusations being hurled on the web-series and why many are calling it propaganda, she made it very clear that the story wasn’t viewed in that manner and in fact, according to her, it was a story that is worth being told. Quipped she, “The story has been close to our hearts and since it’s a story of victory. We never thought of it as propaganda but a story that needs to be told. Avrodh is based on the chapter ‘We Don’t Really Know Fear’ from Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh’s India’s Most Fearless — True Stories of Modern Military Heroes. We wanted the story of India’s most-successful surgical strike to reach its audience with the utmost authenticity. Content is always at the core of our work. Every detail of the show is intricately planned to inspire the realistic style story-telling with a high-octave action.”
Falguni also shed light on the comparison between Avrodh and Uri, “Avrodh’s is a story about what went into the planning, strategy, and execution of the surgical strike on 29th September 2016, on militant launch pads across the Line of Control in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). The film was about an entirely different point of view about the very same event. Also ‘a film is a film’ and ‘a series is a series’; comparing the viewing experience of the two is like comparing night and day, she said.
