Exclusive: No Music Banner Backs Her Singles Reveals Monali Thakur, Says 'For Film Music, They Have All The Money'
Monali Reveals Reality Of Bollywood Music
Updated : June 11, 2020 12:48 PM ISTWell, the Indian music scene’s precincts are not beyond Bollywood. It is almost restricted to just that and there is barely any independent music scene. As opposed to the west the independent musicians of the Hindi film industry find themselves really constricted in terms of showcasing something that they would term to be an original of sorts!
We exclusively got talking to the national award-winning singer Monali Thakur who has sung umpteen songs in Bollywood films most of which were super hits! Monali however, couldn’t stress more on how dearly she wished that the independent music scenario really holds its ground amid the Bollywood music industry sharks and emerges out to be a sole entity of sorts.
The Sawar Loon singer is happy about the newer experiments in Bollywood pertaining to music but at the same time, she also hints at how equations amongst people working in the scene. The singer is also expecting the music industry to break free from the shackles of the Hindi film industry. Quipped she, “It is exciting in a way that there are so many fresh voices and so many fresh minds, music composers and now they are experimenting with all kind of sounds and that is a very exciting thing. It is not like only one person is singing every single song, even though it happens. That happens because of the different equations amongst people.”
Monali is pretty positive about her hopes of the independent music industry really flourishing, “I am optimistic about the fact that independent music is going to come up. I cannot wait for the day when the music industry of India will be the independent music industry and not just the Bollywood film music industry. The primary music industry should be the independent music industry. It is gradually happening. My only hope is every artist should realise, just singing in a film is not the be-all and end-all of it. One’s own independent songs are what counts as the most important. I am optimistic that it will happen soon.”
Revealing her struggles in bringing out her own single she says no big music banners in the industry were ready to help by backing her and that same is not the case with Bollywood songs because of big money! “For instance, when I try to release an independent single nobody wants to put in money, they do not want to support. It is true. But for film music, they have all the money in the world because films have bigger budgets. It is an economical thing but the fact of the matter is there is hardly any renowned music label who wants to support.” Monali stated point-blank!
The spoke on the differences between the Indian music scene and the music industry in the west, “That’s one of the biggest reasons that our country doesn’t have a mainstream music industry which is actually the independent music industry. In the rest of the world, take all the rock stars we look up to in the west, the primary music industry is the independent music industry where the artistes are creating their stuff and they are putting out and the films are taking but ours is completely the opposite. That’s the reason why the musicians in our country are never in the limelight. Even if they are ridiculously talented, people hardly get to know about them and that’s really sad,” she concluded.
