Sumya Tandon On Quitting Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai
Updated : August 22, 2020 01:29 PM ISTTV actress Saumya Tandon has bid adieu to &TV’s Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai. The actress became a household name after she started playing Anita Bhabi on the comedy show.
We got into an exclusive conversation with the actress to get to know about her experience playing the role and whether she thought the character she played was in anyway different from the other comic characters we are so habituated see on the tube.
Saumya feels Anita was a very contemporary character and at the same time, she was different from the kind of ‘bahus and bhabis we are accustomed to seeing on TV. Quipped she, “It has been a beautiful 5-year journey with Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, I thoroughly enjoyed playing the character of Anita. Anita is the new age television heroine; she is not a stereotypical character that we get to see in other TV soaps who is always teary-eyed and is always sacrificing. Anita is today’s woman. She is independent, she has a mind of her own, she is very romantic. She loves with passion has her own quirks; she is just like any other modern urban girl. The love story between her and her husband is a picture of the modern-day relationship. They celebrate the ups and downs of marriage so beautifully. I thoroughly enjoyed playing it.”
Anita feels that unlike other comedy shows, her character underplays in comic situations and she has tried to not be over the top in her portrayal. “I played so many other characters in Bhabiji. It is a comedy show and therefore I tried to keep it as natural and spontaneous as possible which is not very common in the Indian TV scenario. The comedy we see is very loud and caricatured but I tried and made the character as natural, realistic, and believable as I could” Saumya stated.
Saumya became a favorite with the audiences and the actress can’t thank them enough, she feels she got the courage to carry on with the show because of their support and encouragement, “I got a lot of love for the character, they appreciated me a lot. I really want to reach out to all my fans and viewers out there and give them a big hug and thank them for always encouraging and supporting me. I have been through so many changes in my life, during the course of the show, be it my marriage to having my baby and despite all this, I got the strength and energy to put in so much of the hard work because of the love and support I got from the viewers,” she said.
Saumya further added that being a part of the show for 5 long years made everyone related to it a part of her family, “My co-actors have become a part of my life now, they are family now. If you work with someone for five years, it becomes a family. Aasifji [Sheikh] is a dear friend, Rohitji [Rohitash Gaud] is a friend. I would just want to thank everybody for the lovely journey that I have had,” the actress concluded.
