Trolls To Haters: Here Is Why Stars Need To Take Responsibility Of The Rowdiness Of Their Fans

Of late twitter has been buzzing with the news of the engagement of Renu Desai, Telugu megastar Pawan Kalyan’s ex-wife. Pawan Kalyan who has a band of loyal fans who call themselves Pawanists, trolled and shamed her for getting married the second after being cheated on and left by her superstar husband.

In fact, this is hardly an isolated incident. Pawanists are known for being total bullies on the internet who dares to even slightly criticize the star. They are even known for going to the press conferences of other stars and create a ruckus.

While the star has never defended the actions of his fans, he has never really come forward to condemn the rowdiness of his fans or taken any step to prevent the ruckus his fans cause.

In fact, it is not just Pawan Kalyan fans, loyal fans of Lalettan or Mohanlal as we know him are also known to get aggressive with people while defending the megastar of Malayalam cinema. Although well deserved in the case of KRK, it was unreal to see people resorting to such threats and aggression in the name of proclaiming their love for an artist. Even the fans of Mamoothy also have reputation for seriously going after people who air their opinion about the superstar.

One of the most shameful incidents of fans shaming people came out when actor Dileep was accused of staging a molestation and attack on a lesser known actress of Malayalam cinema. When the women sought legal help in the matter not only was she shamed in a lewd language, the ones who defended her also became a target of his ‘fans’.

Fans of Tamil cinema, who are famous for being aggressively possessive about their stars are no better either. Recently, during the on-going controversy about the Tamil superstar Vijay, people saw one of the nastiest sides of people who claim themselves to be fans.

Things are not any less messed up in Bollywood either. While crazy fandom is common in Bollywood, sometimes the turn it takes is not awe-worthy at all. While fans of all superstars have done something crazy at some point, it is especially Salman Khan fans who are notorious for defending the star in about everything. Try posting a negative comment about Bhai’s movie or his personal shenanigans, some Bhai fans will stoop so low with their aggression and nastiness that it is unbelievable.

During the raging controversy over Salman Khan’s rape comment, when Bollywood singer Sona Mohapatra bashed him for his insensitive comment, words like cheap and slut filled her timeline. Though she lashed out at her trolls with full throttle, Salman fans went on to troll and shame her relentlessly.

While we understand that the stars can hardly control the action of their fan and are in no way responsible for their behavior, it is probably high time that they share some accountability. Their silence is taken as a token of appreciation by the fans who think that they impress their idols with their aggressive and cheap acts.

While so much money is spent on building a positive image of them in the public, and even they themselves demand respect because of their body of work and generosities, incidents like this just accounts to bad PR for them.

Given these fans consider these stars to be their demi-gods, maybe if the stars start issuing strong statements against such acts, such nasty acts will finally come to a halt and make our lives on the internet a little easier.
