Irrfan Khan Was The Original Choice For Sardar Udham Singh, Shoojit Sircar Wants The Film To Be An Ode To The Late Actor
Shoojit Sircar Remembers Irrfan Khan
Updated : June 09, 2020 11:11 AM ISTAfter the constant lockdown, finally, the Maharashtra Chief Minister has allowed some respite for the shootings in B’Town albeit with some strict guidelines.
Director Shoojit Sircar kicked off the post-production of the Vicky Kaushal starrer film, Sardar Udham Singh on Monday. The entire film completed the shoot in the month of February, much before the lockdown was announced. That was the time when Gulabo Sitabo was all set to release that he had come back to Mumbai.
It was during an interaction with Mid-Day he stated, "Gulabo Sitabo was ready before the lockdown; all I did was deliver the film. The work on Udham Singh was halted due to the [suspension of shoots]. Now, we are adhering by the guidelines as we proceed. The future at work won't be easy. Shooting is best done in utter chaos. A film can't be shot with constraints; it needs human interaction. But the virus is here to stay. So, we have to realign our methods."
Irrfan Khan was the original Udham Singh but after he was diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer in 2018, Shoojit waited for him to come back. And now after a month of his demise, Shoojit reminisces about the late actor and says that he valued the story more than anything else also adding that his film will be an ode to Irrfan. He has been further quoted as saying, "I think about Irrfan every day. His image floats in front of my eyes. We had grown close in the past two years when he underwent treatment. During his last 10 days, I was following up with Sutapa [Irrfan's wife] and Babil [son]. Babil broke the news to me that morning. I still feel Irrfan is with me, talking to me. I can never get over his loss."
