Maharashtra Govt. Argues In Supreme Court That If Bihar Is Allowed To Probe Sushant's Case It Will Be Murder Of Federalism

Supreme Court held a hearing on Rhea Chakraborty’s petition seeking a transfer of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death probe based on an F.I.R filed against her in Bihar to the Mumbai police. The actress’s counsel has argued that the case is being used by other parties for political gains and justice and questioned the jurisdiction of the Bihar police in the case.

The jurisdiction matter in the case was argued further by the counsels of the states of Bihar and Maharashtra where advocate Maninder Singh representing Bihar stated the Maharashtra government questioned 56 people without registering an F.I.R and that it was the need and requirement for Bihar to step in. He stated that there was no delay in filing F.I.R in Bihar and there was no cooperation from Mumbai Police who refused to even share the post mortem reports of the late actor.

Singh further alleged that there was political pressure on the Mumbai police to not probe the case and stated that it was sad that despite the Supreme Court’s direction the SP of Patna police was not released from quarantine immediately. On the jurisdiction of Bihar police in the case, he stated that he replied on precedents set by Supreme Court.

Arguing the case on behalf of Maharashtra advocate Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that if Bihar police is allowed to proceed with the case it would mean the murder of federalism. He also stated that Bihar’s interest in the case was political and also questioned the state’s request to transfer the case to CBI without jurisdiction in the matter.

Singhvi also added that the circumstances around Sushant Singh Rajput’s death need to be investigated.
