Oh No! Kunal Kemmu Starrer Lootcase Will NOT Release In Theatres, Will Directly Release On OTT Space
Kunal Kemmmu's Lootcase’s Theatre Release Cancelled
Updated : October 01, 2019 05:38 PM ISTThere are specific films that are specially made for the OTT space and at the same time there are certain films that do not for some reason get a theatre release but the makers then have a choice of premiering their film here, if not the traditional silver screen! A few days ago, we reported about Karan Johar’s Drive featuring Sushant Singh Rajput and Jacqueline Fernandez will be released directly on Netflix. According to media reports, Karan Johar didn’t want to face yet another debacle after Kalank’s massive disaster at the box office which is why he decided to play safe thus releasing the film on the webspace.
And now, if media reports are to be believed, another film Lootcase, featuring Kunal Kemmu, Ranvir Shorey and Rasika Duggal will be released directly on an OTT platform! This comic film is being produced by Fox Star Studios and directed by Rajesh Krishnan known for his popular web series Tripling. The bad thing is the film was slated to have a theatre release on the 11th of October.
A report on Bollywood Hungama quotes a source as saying, “Fox Star Studios recently burnt their hands with the Sonam Kapoor -Dulquer Salmaan starrer The Zoya Factor. It didn’t even collect Rs. 3 crores in India. As a result, they are over-cautious with Lootcase and don’t want to have back-to-back commercial disasters in their filmography. Hence, when they got a lucrative offer from a streaming platform, they went ahead and canceled the theatrical release.”
It is more than evident that just a few days ago the actors who were so elated about the release of their film on the silver screen and who were answering the questions from the media with such gusto now are more than embarrassed! The report further quotes the source as saying, “Everyone is not happy with the decision as they were looking forward to the theatrical release of Lootcase. But this is business and practicality will overrule emotions at the end of the day.”
