Sanjay Leela Bhansali To Demolish Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathaiawadi Set, Would Incur Rs 15 Crore Loss
Bhansali To Demolish Gangubai Set, Will Lose 15 CR
Updated : May 06, 2020 07:19 PM ISTFilms are incurring losses left, right and center due to the countrywide lockdown in order to combat the Coronavirus Pandemic. Sanjay Leela Bhansali was pretty pepped about Gangubai Kathiawadi. The film was supposed to star actress Alia Bhatt in the lead, but things went completely off the track after the lockdown.
The filmmaker had erected a huge set for the film The set resembled Kamathipura (a red light district in Mumbai) in the bygone era. And, now the makers just have to keep paying huge costs to keep their set erected inside the studio.

Earlier, we at Desimartini.com had reported how the makers of the film were clearly thinking of demolishing the set. And now, Pinkvilla reported that Sanjay Bhansali has indeed finalised the fate of the set. He is ready to demolish it! The report quotes a trade source as saying, "It's a good decision on his part because it's still unclear if the shoot will begin anytime soon. The producers are still paying daily rent for the set to Film City. They have now calculated that even if the shoot resumes somewhere around September-October as is being discussed, it will be a more practical call to demolish the set now and create a similar one again."
The trade pundit went on to state, it would be a smaller loss compared to if they (the makers) continued to keep the set. He went on to say, Monsoons will hit the set badly and it will anyway get destroyed which is why paying a regular rent was not feasible. He further contended, constructing a new set is what still seems to be a better option. He went on to peg the costs of rebuilding a set that would resemble the 60’s Kamathipura yet again, at another 12-13 crores plus he added the remaining Rs 2 crore which according to him is the sum that the makers have lost because of the lockdown and the Coronavirus outbreak, which brought the total to Rs 15 crores!
