Varun Breaks Silence About The CAA Controversy
Updated : December 18, 2019 04:49 PM ISTCurrently, the country is going through a tumultuous time as the protests around the Citizenship Amendment Act has left the whole country divided in opinions. As most citizens are choosing one side or the other of the raging controversy, there has been a constant demand for popular actors of Bollywood to voice their take on the matter.
Recently, when Varun Dhawan was asked about why he has maintained silence throughout the episode, he said, “Mostly people react on social media today, but is the whole of India on Twitter?” He further added, “What’s happening in the country is being reported (in media). I don’t want to comment because 4-5 versions are floating. Right now we are sitting here in Mumbai, there are things happening in other parts of the country. It is wrong of us to react until and unless we see it or are fully aware of what is happening. Any kind of force used against peaceful protesters in wrong. We agree that is wrong. It is a sensitive matter. The easiest thing is to slam someone by writing or speaking something. As a public personality one needs to study the situation well before sharing a viewpoint. I am not speaking out of fear. This is my country and I need to be responsible.”
However, on other side celebrities like Swara Bhaskar, Huma Qureshi, Parineeti Chopra, Siddharth Malhotra, and Anurag Kashyap have spoken openly about the matter and condemned the Jamia Milia Islamia violence in strong words.
