Will Gangubai Kathiawadi Feature Inshallah’s Music? Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali Responds
Will Gangubai Kathiawadi Feature Inshallah’s Music?
Updated : October 24, 2019 10:27 AM ISTIf media reports are to be believed, Gangubai Kathiawadi will be having the same songs that were penned for Inshallah! However, on the contrary director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is busy composing completely new songs for his upcoming film starring Alia Bhatt. A report on Bollywood Hungama quotes a source close to Sanjay Leela Bhansali as saying, “There’s nothing in common between Inshallah and Gangubai Kathiawadi except Alia Bhatt. While SLB’s music and songs for Inshallah were soft romantic ballads, here in Gangubai he’s going in quite an opposite direction. The songs in Gangubai will be raw earthy and folksy. For the first time, SLB is doing a folk-based music score.”
There are very few music directors in our country who perhaps give their own music in a film. There have been a few instances in the past with director Satyajit Ray being one of the most prominent filmmakers to give the music in his films. There was also Raj Kapoor and many others. The report quotes Sanjay Leela Bhansali as saying, “There is a genuine music composer dormant in many filmmakers. Raj Saab (Raj Kapoor) used to compose a lot of his music in his own head. Then he would share his creations with Shankar-Jaikishan who would then mould the compositions into a sophisticated work of art. Another great filmmaker, the underrated Raj Khosla was a singer-composer who collaborated with Laxmikant-Pyarelal for some fabulous music.”
