Debina Compelled Gurmeet To Shoot Ramayan Despite Illness
Updated : May 12, 2020 08:53 PM ISTValmiki’s Ramayan has been a favourite when it comes to television producers and directors. The very first Ramayan to be aired on TV was that of Ramanand Sagar which starred actors Arun Govil and Dipika Chiklia in the roles. The show earned a cult status when it was aired back in the late 80s. During the lockdown, when it had a re-telecasted, it topped the TRP charts. It was much later that Anand Sagar made Ramayan again once again, this time with Gurmeet Choudhary and Debina Bonnerjee in the lead roles. With old shows being re-telecast, even this version of Ramayan is being aired too on the Dangal channel. And did you know a very interesting inciident happened on the sets of anand Sagar's Ramayan during the shoot of one of the most crucial scenes?
Well, this one is about the scene where Sita aka Debina was to get married to Ram aka Gurmeet Chaudhary. A source informs us, “While shooting the wedding sequence, Gurmeet fell very ill and was hospitalized for a week. His condition was very bad and had no energy to leave the hospital room let alone go on the set to shoot.”
But it was an important scene and the shoot, therefore, couldn’t be delayed, “The makers decided to continue shooting with a duplicate artist. Since it was a wedding sequence, the director decided to cover the face of Gurmeet’s body double with a ‘sehra’ made of flowers.” But Debina did not want to take the vows with Gurmeet's body double even on-screen.The source went on to say, “A day prior to shooting the actual wedding (taking vows), Debina Bonnerjee emotionally convinced Gurmeet and said "Gurmeet, tomorrow is the final wedding shoot and I am not going to take the vows with your duplicate. You have to turn up on the set, come what may!’"."
Hearing this, a sense of energy and realization passed through Gurmeet that he could not let a substitute take his place on the D-Day. “He consulted the doctor and even though he didn't fully recover, he showed up on the set and shot the sequence. Well, that’s what a real Lord Ram would do too,” revealed the source.
On-screen and off it, Gurmeet and Debina give us couple goals, isn't it?
