Speaking to Times of India the actress vented out her frustration over the ongoing issue that senior actors in TV don’t get roles that have any layers or are interesting enough. The actress went on to add that while money is an important criteria one can’t sell the soul for it. Bharati also lamented how 30 year old women are being made to play mother-in-laws and grandmothers in daily soaps that are heavily compromising on content for TRPs.
The actress felt that a realistic show like Sumit Sambhal Lega failed as people go looking for larger than life shows. She was quoted by the publication saying, “I feel that the makers don’t want to work hard on creating interesting characters. Though TV is a medium for women, older actresses are treated like furniture. It’s okay if they give me a small part, but it should be meaty. Even if I have just one scene in an episode, it should be impactful. I don’t want to be treated like furniture in shows. 30-year-old women play mothers-in-law and grandmothers, it is all so unreal. I don’t do a show until I can relate to it."
Recalling her iconic show Wagle Ki Duniya the actress also said that even after so many years people remember the show despite the fact that it only had 19 episodes and she wore no make up or elaborate costumes. She said that today each episode of a daily soap is short in just a day and therefore one can’t expect quality.
