Ashok Selvan Replaces Nivin In Gnanavel’s ‘Kootatthil Oruthan’

Journalist-turned-filmmaker Gnanavel is currently gearing for the release of his upcoming directorial venture ‘Kootatthil Oruthan’, a movie which is based on middle bench students. The director initially approached Nivin Pauly for the lead role. However, the 32-year-old rejected the offer as he had some prior commitments.

And now we have heard that Ashok Selvan has replaced Nivin for the role. “I wrote the script with Nivin Pauly in mind. It’s a story of a boy with average looks, bespectacled, oiled hair, donning rubber slippers.  I even narrated my story to Nivin. He did like it, but due to other commitments, he could not give his dates,” revealed Gnanavel.

Ashok Selvan got to know about the movie from the film’s music composer Nivas. “I picked up the phone and offered myself to Gnanavel sir to be part of the project as I could relate to the character who yearns for individual identity,” said Ashok. Priya Anand has been cast as the female lead. Samuthirakani, Nasser, Balasaravanan, Sanjay Bharathi have been signed in to play supporting roles. ‘Kootatthil Oruthan’ will hit the theatres on July 28, 2017.
