Jagapati Babu Credits His Career Growth To His Salt-and-pepper Look

Jagapati Babu, who has won the hearts of many women in the town, says that he owes his career growth to his salt-and-pepper look, which happened to him because of his laziness. In a candid interview with TOI, the actor revealed, “At one point of time, I was jobless, and was too lazy to even trim my beard and dye my hair. I let them grow, without any conscious thought of doing so. That's when I decided to do a photoshoot, and well, you won't believe this, it worked big-time for me. The director of Legend (the Telugu superhit) liked my look”.

He continued, “Now, every filmmaker wants me to look like this. I wish to see myself on screen with Ajith. Don't you think both of us will look good together with salt-and-pepper hair?”.

Talking about his career in Kollywood, the actor said, "To be frank, I didn't get any offers from the Tamil industry during the initial stages of my career. I did films with Vikram and Arjun back then, and then, a few films that didn't do well. Anyway, now I am happy to be acting in films here, and my wife also comes for the shoots as she loves Chennai".

About playing quite a few negative roles in the recent past, the actor said, “It's not like I believe in negative roles — but I've had my share of 'hero' days in the industry, and have done character roles on and off as well. What I thankfully realised in time is that just being a commercial hero means the market is limited. Plus, I had to do something different to stay in the game, as well as satisfy the artiste in me. I want to be practical and keep trying out something unique”.  Jagapati Babu added that he likes to break the rules once in a while.
