Pandit Raghunath Panigrahi passes away

Veteran classical singer-music director- vocalistPandit Raghunath Panigrahi has died at the age of 79. He was diagnosed with throat cancer and was ailing from the past two months. Pandit Raghunath had a cardiac arrest yesterday (next day of his wife's death anniversary) at 11:30 a.m. He was soon taken to the hospital but the doctors declared that the legendary artist was brought dead.

Padma Shri Pandit Raghunath had recited Jayadeva's Gita Govinda and was best known for this. He was the first Odia vocalist to be honoured by the French government for his Gita Govinda's composition. The ace composer is survived by two sons. He tried to make Odissi music more popular throughout his life. And, he succeeded in doing that too as his vocal piece Gita Govinda is still loved by many all over the world.
