Velaiyilla Pattathari mints a whopping Rs. 5.18 crore on day 1!

The much awaited comedy-drama flick Velaiyilla Pattathari rocked the box-office with a belligerent start. The film which claims to be Dhanush’s 25^th film hit the screens on July 18 and received good response and positive reviews from both audiences and critics.

"The film, which released in over 300 theatres Friday, grossed Rs. 5.18 crore. This is the best ever opening for a Dhanush film. This success is very important for Dhanush because his last two Tamil films turned out to be duds," said trade analyst Trinath.

Dhanush thanked his fans through a social networking site. "I don't know how to thank my fans for giving VIP the biggest opening of my career and making it a huge blockbuster. I dedicate my tears of joy to you all," an overjoyed Dhanush tweeted.

Directed by R.Velraj and produced by Dhanush himself, the film revolves around an unemployed graduate who vows to become successful against all odds. Along with Dhanush and Amala Paul, the film also presents Vivek, Samuthirakani and Saranya Ponvannan in meaty roles.
