The Rings of Power Episode 1&2 Review - A spectacular return to the world of Middle Earth
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
During the second age of Middle Earth, The Eleven warrior Galadriel is determined to find the dark lord Sauron and stop him before he dooms all of Middle Earth.
The first two episodes of The Rings of Power are out and the Amazon prequel series was worth the wait, the series which is set in the second age of Middle Earth and thousands of years before The Hobbit and The Lord of Rings is enchanting to watch.
The series which reportedly has a whopping budget of 450 million had put that money to good use, the visual style and the grandeur on display are on par with Peter Jackson's movie trilogy.
The first episode is exposion-heavy which is understandable considering the source material we are dealing with, another major problem is that it does take its sweet time to find its pacing.
The episode mostly focuses on Galadriel played by Morfydd Clark and her quest to hunt down the remaining Orcs and their new master Sauron.
The episode also focuses on two other subplots one of them is the story of a young Harfoot named Nori, who dreams of adventure and the other is Arondir an elven warrior who falls in love with a human woman.
overall the first episode despite its flaws is fun to watch and the spectacular visuals more than make up for any of the issues.
The second episode is vastly better paced and better directed, the episode focuses on the humans in the village where Bronwyn and Arondir reside as they uncover an Orcish plot that threatens the whole village.
The episode also focuses on Galderal as she tries to get back to Middle Earth and Elrond played by Robert Aramayo as he joins the great eleven smith Celebrimbor.
The biggest highlight of the second episode is the relationship between the Dwarven Prince Duran played by Owain Arthur and Elrond, it truly felt genuine and added some need relatability that the show was missing.
The chemistry between Robert Aramayo and Owain Arthur is very reminiscent of that between Legolas and Gimli in the Lord of the Rings movies.
So The Rings of Power is trying to tell its own unique story set in the fictional world created by J.R.R Tolkein and despite the pacing issues of the first episode it seems to have found its footing in the second.
Hopefully, it maintains this momentum and creates a truly spectacular series that the franchise deserves.
