The live-action adaption of the 1997 animated movie Hercules is set to be produced by the Russo brothers, during a recent interview with Games Rader they were asked about the project.
The Russo brothers are quickly becoming two of the busiest filmmakers in Hollywood and have more than a few projects in their sights with the next one being the remake of the 1997 animated blockbuster.
While Disney 's previous attempts at live-action adaption of their classics have been a mixed bag, with most of the losing the charm and 'Disney Magic' that the originals possessed.
Considering the Russo Brother's track record, it seems that the movie is in safe hands, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings writer David Callaham is penning the screenplay, while it was confirmed back in June that Aladdin director Guy Ritchie will helm the movie.
The Russo Brother's are currently promoting their Netflix action thriller movie The Gray Man which stars Ryan Reynolds and Chris Evans in the lead.
When they were asked about working with Disney and their take on the 1997 classic Hercules
"It will certainly pay homage to the original with a more modern spin on it," Joe teases. "What Anthony and I love about the original is how funny and subversive it is," he adds. "I think we try to embrace that sense of humor in the remake."
Despite the mixed reactions from critics and fans, Disney has found great success with their live-action adaption, with the 2019 live-action adaption of The Lion King grossing over 1 billion dollars worldwide.
Hopefully, the team behind Hercules can recreate the magic of the original, and considering the Russo Brothers' track record it seems that the project is in good hands.
Recently Marvel introduced their version of Hercules in the post-credit scene of Thor: Love and Thunder, so it will be interesting to see how Disney handles their version of the mythic hero.
