Lock Upp Exclusive- Ali Merchant on losing to Poonam Pandey: ‘She has a separate market who like to watch her’

On day 15 of Ekta Kapoor’s reality show Lock Upp , DJ Ali Merchant entered the celebrity prison as the first wild card kaidi of the season. Audiences as well as the contestants were surprised, but the most shocked of them all was his ex wife and actress Sara Khan. Interestingly, Ali outdid her on the show and managed to stay inside Kangana Ranaut ’s prison for longer. However, earlier this week he was shown the doors after Bollywood’s queen chose Poonam Pandey over him and eliminated him.

Well, in an exclusive interview post his elimination, we asked Ali if he feels Poonam is more entertaining than him. To this, he replied, “I think Poonam Pandey has her own.. shayad Poonam Pandey ke paas kuchh cheezein hain flaunt karne ke liye, in terms of entertainment. Mere paas woh cheezein nahi hain. Mere paas woh cheezein hai which are an exact reflection of what I am, and I think that is what people and a lot of audiences could relate to and which is why I ended up getting so many votes.”

He went on to state, “But obviously Poonam Pandey has a different separate market altogether, who like to watch her. But probably my way of dealing with things does not cater to that particular audience, so yeah.” Ali explained that he likes looking at things in a positive light and added, “Jo mera purpose tha woh poora ho gaya. I’m just non-stop reading scripts right now, I have already signed a couple of projects, so it can’t get better than that.” He revealed that he has a web series which will release in the next couple of days.
