Updated : March 12, 2022 04:16 PM ISTMandira Bedi talks about not doing many films and Tv shows after becominga cricket presenter and anchor, reveals she was recently offered reality shows like Lock Upp and Bigg Boss.
Mandira Bedi has had a time last year after the sudden demise of her filmmaker husband raj kaushal. The actress however has been a pillar for strength for her family and is now keeping busy with work and taking care of her two kids Vir and Tara.
In a recent, interview the actress turned cricket show host was asked why she didn’t end up doing more in films after the success of her 90s blockbuster Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge or even TV shows after Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.
The actress said while talking to ETimes that she took a sabbatical after her TV show, Shanti, as she felt she had reached a point of saturation. She further revealed that after she became a cricket presenter which led people to forget that’s she’s also an actor.
“After 'Shanti', I did quite a few daily soaps. But for a creative person, daily soaps can squeeze the creativity out of you. I reached a stage of saturation and felt I should take a sabbatical. At this point, cricket happened to me. That was a turning point in my life. But after that, the industry saw me only as an anchor/presenter. They forgot that I was an actor,” Mandira said.
The actress who chopped off her long tresses a while ago also said that the roles she was offered then were most of playing a cop or a gangster. “My short hair further brought in offers of only the cop or gangster roles. Plus, after 'DDLJ', I was offered a lot of roles which required me to play either a 'best friend' or 'bhabhi'. But right now, I am getting a nice mix of sports and acting. It's good, qualitatively and quantitatively. Post the birth of my son, I would say things changed for me,” she added.
Mandira was also asked if she’d ever take up a reality show if she was offered one at which point she revealed that she has been offered Bigg Boss and even Kangana Ranaut ’s recent reality show Lock Upp both of which she turned down. The actress said that she’s not one for show that put her in a ‘closed social environment’.
