Andor
The Andor series is just a week from its debut on Disney+, the upcoming series stars Diego Luna as Cassian Ando and will focus on the early days of the Rebel Alliance.
A hand full of critics got to see the first four episodes back in July. Now that the review embargo has been lifted, they can share their initial thoughts on social media. As you can see below, the reactions are overwhelmingly positive.
But they do see to be in agreement that the show is a slow burn, and it seems that the first couple of episodes don't have a lot going for them, but it does seem to find its footing in the later episodes.
It will be interesting to see how people who are not Star Wars fans will react to the slow nature of the series.
The 12-episode series is a spy thriller that is set before the events of Rogue One and is set in an era filled with danger, deception, and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.
The series will be told from the perspective of different characters whose lives have been affected by the Empire in one way or the other.
So let's take a look at what the critics have to say
I watched the first four episodes of #Andor back in July and it’s okay so far. Very slow, but picks up in third and fourth episodes. Glad they’re condensing years 2 - 5 into one season as it drags at times. Diego Luna and the cast are great. Doesn’t feel overly #StarWars yet. pic.twitter.com/yL4uV2vsq5

The first episode of #Andor is a slog. A bunch of scenes introducing seemingly uninteresting characters and situations. There's no hook. Things do pick up a little, but this is a *slow* burn, and tbh, I'm not sure #StarWars fans will be particularly invested.

First 4 episodes of #Andor are incredible! Cassian, Mon Mothma and the supporting characters are all strongly-acted & fantastic (especially Stellan Skarsgård’s Luthen) and the actual look of the series will take you right back to brilliant production design of ROGUE ONE. pic.twitter.com/WmNG2r40YP

Cassian #Andor is a very, very different kind of Star Wars protagonist. Shifty. A con artist. A liar. And it makes the show all the better. Diego Luna and Stellan Skarsgård just pop whenever they're on screen together.

I've watched 4 episodes of #Andor & I'm loving its more simple ground-level approach. It's different from the other shows, less humor. Plays like a crime drama more than a space opera. I dug how it highlights low-level Empire leaders as it reveals a rebel alliance slowly forming pic.twitter.com/SNsBIDrhbq

#Andor is a bold experiment. It's the first slow-burn #StarWars drama, and it definitely takes a few episodes to get going, but when it does it's very rewarding. It's incredibly subtle and tonally different from anything that's come before in this franchise, including #RogueOne. pic.twitter.com/Cub5VSnBvp

#Andor is unlike any @starwars story that we've ever seen before. @diegoluna_ is at the center of a stunning & dangerous world in turmoil. It's gritty, mature, and the most intelligent and well-informed story we've had to date. Tony Gilroy is a genius. pic.twitter.com/pfZwlmZ0HD

I’ve seen the first 3 eps of #Andor and I say this with the utmost conviction: this is going to be the show that gets me back into Star Wars. ANDOR introduces new, memorable characters, plus an intriguing arc for Andor. And it actually has something to say!

Ep 3 is spectacular. pic.twitter.com/6iV23ot6Na
#StarWars #Andor is very, VERY, good. The production quality and acting is off the charts. Feels like a "prestige" drama within the galaxy far, far away. Definitely the most "adult" Star Wars story so far, with more subtle world-building & slower burn story. It rules. Hard. pic.twitter.com/4PjqkoZ56Y

Tony Gilroy is also the creator and showrunner and the rest of the cast members includes Genevieve O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, and Fiona Shaw.
Andor premieres on Disney+ on September 21.
