'Can't a calm man have an emotional outburst?' : Gaurav Khanna defends his character's grey transformation in Anupamaa

Gaurav Khanna has inevitably become a household name with the portrayal of the ideal and doting husband Anuj in the hit show Anupamaa . His chemistry with co-actor Rupali Ganguly is also adored by many fans. However, in the current track, due to a grey transformation in Anuj’s character, many fans of the show have been left unhappy. From being a loving husband, Gaurav’s character has gone to a man who is appearing to be miffed with his wife. However, the actor recently came in defense of his character and seems to have no qualms about the shift in the same.

A news report in the Bombay Times quoted the actor to reveal how it is extremely human for his character Anuj to behave this way since he is in an emotionally vulnerable stage right now. Gaurav Khanna said, “People have to understand that Anupamaa is a slice-of-life show. And though Anuj loves his wife, one needs to understand that people react differently in different situations. He is broken and emotionally in a bad state right now.”

Apart from this, Gaurav also questioned the fans who are creating a ruckus on his character’s temperament change stating, “Can’t a mature, understanding, calm man have an emotional outburst?” and the actor furthermore spoke about his real-life equation with his wife Akanksha. The Yeh Pyaar Na Hoga Kam actor added, “I am like any other normal human being. Just because I look calm, does not mean I don’t lose my cool sometimes. If I’m playing a game with my wife or a friend and if I lose, I will lose my cool because I am competitive.”

Just like his character in Anupamaa, Gaurav Khanna hinted at behaving like any normal person in a household in case of any disagreements. The actor said, “There are disagreements in every household and I react to any situation like a regular person would. And I think that’s very normal.” It will be interesting to see whether fans will see the old Anuj back onscreen again.
