India vs Qatar, FIFA World Cup Qualifiers: Gurpreet Singh Sandhu named captain post Sunil Chhetri's retirement; live streaming on TV and OTT

After the home game against Kuwait, which marked the last appearance for the Indian captain, leader, and legend Sunil Chhetri, who announced his retirement before the match, emotions ran high. However, as the team now must move forward, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, the goalkeeper of the Indian football team, has been named as the new skipper. He will lead the side in their FIFA World Cup qualifier against Qatar on June 11.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup 2027 Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 2 match will take place at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium on June 11, 2024 (Tuesday), at 9:15 IST. While it will not be available for telecast on TV, the live stream will be accessible via the Fancode app and website in India.

India vs Qatar:

Since Sunil Chhetri recently announced his retirement from international football, this game will be played without the renowned skipper for the first time for India.

The Indian football team is playing in the final game of their second round of FIFA World Cup qualifiers, so this game is very important to them. The Blue Tigers, who were defeated 0–3 at home by Qatar in November of last year, are keen to avoid matching that poor showing.

India would advance to the third round of the AFC World Cup 2026 qualifiers if they defeated Qatar. However, if they draw, they will have to depend on the outcome of the match between Afghanistan and Kuwait.

The squad will be missing defenders Subhasish Bose, Lalchungnunga, and Amey Ranawade, who were part of the lineup against Kuwait. Bose is unavailable due to personal reasons.
