A jawan from the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), who was assigned to the security detail of cricket legend Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar, allegedly shot himself at his ancestral home in Jamner town, according to an official statement today. The 39-year-old man has been identified as Prakash Kapde, who had reportedly taken a brief vacation to his native place.

Kapde, who shot himself in the neck with his service gun, is survived by his elderly parents, wife, two minor children, a brother, and other family members.

Senior Police Inspector Kiran Shinde of Jamner Police Station stated that the incident occurred around 1:30 am at the victim’s residence, and the exact reasons behind the alleged suicide are currently under investigation. "As per preliminary investigations, he may have taken the extreme step owing to certain personal reasons, but we are awaiting further details from the investigation," Mr Shinde cautiously informed the news agency IANS.

Kapde's body has been sent for autopsy, and the Jamner Police have registered an accidental death report pending further investigations, which will include questioning his family members, colleagues, and other acquaintances.

Sources have indicated that the SRPF is likely to conduct its independent inquiry into the incident, given that it involves a jawan assigned to VVIP security.

Currently, Tendulkar serves as the mentor for the Mumbai Indians franchise in the Indian Premier League. He is frequently seen at venues where MI plays. Despite retiring from international cricket over a decade ago, Tendulkar remains active on social media. His records for most runs and centuries in international cricket remain unbroken.
