Farah Khan on overcoming a low phase post Tees Maar Khan's criticism, says 'I didn’t want to step out'

Farah Khan is known for being one of those few directors in the industry who has aced the formula of churning out massy commercial movies. However, the filmmaker also has had her low phases wherein her 2010 film Tees Maar Khan starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles received loads of criticism despite raking in decent numbers at the box office. In a recent interview, Farah spoke about how she battled a difficult point in her life owing to the same.

Talking about the same, Farah Khan spoke to Bombay Times wherein she said how her mother-in-law helped her to get through that bad phase. The director said, “I still recall how Tees Maar Khan was ripped apart and though people said a lot of things about it, the film made money. I’ve been a fighter and a survivor. After Tees Maar Khan, I didn’t want to step out, even though I was winning an award for the choreography of Sheila Ki Jawani. My mother-in-law encouraged me to go for it. So, through time and the ups and downs, I grew older and wiser, and had kids.”

Farah Khan furthermore revealed the reason behind her not being in a rush to direct films again. The filmmaker stated that she is in a comfort space in her career right now and that she wishes to focus on spending some quality time with her kids. Farah said, “I’m in a comfort zone today. I’ve not made a film in a few years, but I’ve been busy, either doing shows, acting in ads or directing ad films. I’ve found my own zone to work where I am at ease and still as busy as I want to be. I wanted to spend time with my kids. And yet, despite slowing down a bit, the only time we actually chilled together was during the lockdown.”

Farah Khan last directed the 2014 movie Happy New Year . The film starred Shah Rukh Khan , Deepika Padukone , and Abhishek Bachchan in the lead roles. Though the movie had received mixed reviews from the masses, it had emerged to be a box office hit.
