Updated : August 15, 2022 04:44 PM ISTBrahmastra, which marks Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s first film together, is the latest victim to the cancel culture. The reasons behind this new boycott trend for the Ayan Mukerji film will leave you stumped.
Even before Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s film Laal Singh Chaddha arrived in theatres, it became the target of many netizens who decided to boycott it. Why? Well, they believed that Aamir insulted Hindu Gods in his film PK and also felt that some statements made by him in the past were anti-national. When Hrithik Roshan, who will next be seen in Vikram Vedha, lauded Aamir’s film many trolls retaliated by trending #BoycottVikramVedha. Now the latest film which has fallen prey to this trend is Brahmastra .
Helmed by Ayan Mukerji, Brahmastra features Ranbir Kapoor , Alia Bhatt , Mouni Roy and Amitabh Bachchan in the lead with Nagarjuna in a pivotal role and Shah Rukh Khan in a cameo. It was one of the most awaited films of the year but now social media is flooding with tweets which say #BoycottBrahmastra. What’s the reason behind this anger? One post said: “Ranbir was equally involved in insulting Hindu Gods in PK. Amitabh questions Hindu ghoonghat in KBC but fails to speak on burkha and hijab. Boycott their movies. #BoycottBrahmastra.” Meanwhile another internet user accused Brahmastra team of mocking Shastras.
Take a look at some other shocking reasons why netizens are planning to boycott Ranbir and Alia’s film:

It’s a movie that copies Hollywood avengers format in the name of presenting modern Indian mythology
The lead actors and the director have no idea about India’s ancient scriptures.
Its time to boycott every movies of Kapoor's and khan's, who thinks Bollywood is there personal property and show us only 3rd class remakes of South Indian and Hollywood movies. Neither they respect us nor our sentiments. Its time to show the Power of public.#BoycottBrahmastra

#BoycottBrahmastra This film attempts to make a mockery of Shastras. Tries to turn them into mythology which they don't deserve to be. Shiva and Shakti are not a kissing couple. Please boycott the film

There were several netizens who even tweeted about boycotting Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar’s film Raksha Bandhan, which clashed with Aamir’s Laal Singh Chaddha on Rakhi. Both the films have done disappointing business at the ticket windows. With so many tweets against Brahmastra, we can’t help but wonder if Ranbir and Alia’s film will see a similar fate. Currently it is one of the most talked about projects of Bollywood and fans are quite excited to see the lead pair together on the silver screen for the very first time. Maybe it could be the hit that Bollywood has been waiting for? Let’s see what happens when Brahmastra releases on 9th September. Let’s hope for the best!
