Kevin Feige opens up about difficultly in getting Spider-Man right for the MCU

President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige has opened up about the difficult task it was for the MCU to get everything about Spider-Man right after having struck a deal with Sony to introduce the character in Captain America: Civil War .

While it has been a treat watching Tom Holland as Spider-Man interact with the other Marvel superheroes, the latest film starring Holland, Spider-Man: No Way Home has crossed 1 billion dollars at the worldwide box office, a feat that puts it in the league of films like Avengers Infinity War and Endgame. 

While now the success of the movie looks easy, there was a time when whether or not Spider-Man would even appear in the MCU was the question everyone was asking. Thankfully Sony and Marvel came to an agreement but the contract between the two companies ended in 2019 with his final appearance in the MCU to be Avengers: Endgame putting the future of the franchise on hold.

But thankfully the studios were able to come to an agreement the result of which is obvious with both the commercial and financial success of No Way Home.

In a recent interview, Kevin Feige opened about the initial dealings with Sony and said that after he had asked Amy Pascal to join forces on Spider-Man and place him in the MCU and got her blessing along with Sony and Tom Rothman, it was then that he felt the pressure of delivering.

"It's one thing getting people to say yes, it's another thing now delivering on what the heck you were talking about," he added "And the first step on that is casting, and is saying 'okay let's find the youngest, Peter Parker who we can grow with and who can do scenes with these other Marvel heroes for the first time.'"

The Marvel Studios President further added that the casting for Spider-man began when the Civil War shoot was already underway and they were not sure if they be able to find someone in time. Well, they did find Tom Holland and got the world's nod of approval with his introduction.

Feige went on to talk about No Way Home and added, "We knew coming out of Far From Home that we didn't want to shy away from the fact that his identity is now revealed, it's out there, and that was certainly always the starting point, and with Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna and our director Jon Watts and Amy Pascal we sat and just started brainstorming, what happens next?" 

No Way Home perfectly answers the question with the movie packing tons of surprises for fans who have followed the Spider-Man films since Toby Maguire donned the Spidey suit in the 2002 film. 

With Spider-Man: No Way Home being one of the highest-grossing movies in the MCU and also being the highest-grossing movie for Sony this year the alliance between the two studios seems strong.
