Indiana Jones returns: Harrison Ford dials Destiny at Cannes Festival

All eyes were on the Riviera as the Cannes Film Festival kicked off, yet amid the hustle and bustle, it was "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" that shone the brightest.

Making a grand entrance on the scene was none other than our favorite whip-cracking archaeologist. This upcoming Disney/Lucasfilm sequel starring the indomitable Harrison Ford marked its territory with a massive promotional installation adorning the freshly renovated Carlton Hotel. A sight to behold, the billboard added a dash of Hollywood glam to the serenity of the Cannes coastline.

Though the Croisette wasn’t exactly abuzz with activity, the Indiana Jones installation seemed to call out to the festival-goers. It brought back memories of thrilling chases, daring adventures, and mythical artifacts, setting the mood for its out-of-competition world premiere on Thursday.

The Carlton Hotel itself, fresh out of a seven-year renovation estimated at 350 million euros ($380 million), served as a symbolic canvas for the return of our classic hero. On a lawn across from the hotel's entry pathway, a space was reserved for Paramount, showcasing the diversity of the festival.

The hotel’s grand facade seemed to resonate with the spirit of Indiana Jones. Though it wasn't yet bedecked with the customary promotional posters, the spectacle of Indiana Jones' arrival filled the void. After having been closed for two and a half years, Carlton’s grand reopening echoed the epic return of our beloved adventurer.

But it wasn’t just the Carlton Hotel that flaunted a makeover. The Grand Hotel, now rebranded as the Mondrian, showed off its new look too. Its revamped esplanade and interior, along with the addition of a Mr. Nakamoto restaurant, added a fresh flavor to the festival. The former Wild Bunch offices, now sporting the Goodfellas name and logo, signaled the ever-evolving landscape of Cannes.
