Karan Johar ’s popular chat show Koffee With Karan 7 saw Sidharth Malhotra and Vicky Kaushal grace the couch and the trio shared some delightful banter on the episode. However, one of the highlights of the same was KJo owning up to the fact that his film Student Of The Year (2012) had a little too many flaws. The movie marked the acting debut of Sidharth along with Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt , catapulting them into successful stars in Bollywood.

Karan Johar could be seen telling Vicky Kaushal and Sidharth Malhotra how he was utterly disappointed with the script of the movie within four days of shooting it. Even though Sidharth was seen telling Karan how the film churned up well, the latter could be seen confessing how he was horrified to see the plot of the movie. The producer-director also revealed how he ‘objectified’ Sidharth’s character a little too much in Student Of The Year instead of focusing on his character arc.

Apart from this, Karan Johar also recalled a hilarious incident wherein he had tried to add some logic to Sidharth Malhotra’s character Abhimanyu being able to afford new clothes and bikes despite being from a middle-class family. Karan said that he wanted to showcase a sequence in which Sidharth’s character is melting and selling the gold medals that he is winning at his school to be able to afford his lifestyle. The Kal Ho Na Ho director then added how his production designer Amrita drew some sense into him and told him that the gold medals won at school are not really made out of gold.

Sidharth Malhotra also had a hearty laugh as he recollected how Karan Johar thought that the medals that one gets in school or college are really made up of gold. The actor said Karan’s plan was to show his character selling the medals and buying clothes from Gucci and Prada which also left Vicky Kaushal in splits. However, Karan added that he knew that once the audience will see his name being associated with the film, they will stop searching for logic in the movie.

Student Of The Year was often criticized for being illogical and depicting a bizarre representation of one’s school and college life. However, the film was a commercial success. The second installment Student Of The Year 2 starring Tiger Shroff, Ananya Panday, and Tara Sutaria had however failed to strike a chord with the masses.
