Filmmaker and producer Karan Johar on Tuesday was thanked by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswas Sharma for donating Rs. 11 lakhs towards the floods relief efforts of the state. While the donation was made silently and without any publicity on Karan's part, the CM's tweet expressing gratitude has attracted the attention of social media users who have expressed that the filmmaker who earns in crores could have contributed more.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswas Sharma's tweet read, "Grateful to film producer Shri @karanjohar and Dharma Productions for contributing ₹11 lakh to CM Relief Fund. Also, acknowledge Shri Rohit Shetty for his initiative of getting the entire Indian film industry together for the cause of #AssamFloods."

Reacting to the CM's tweet, users on Twitter targeted Karan for the donation with a few expressing that the filmmaker ought to have contributed more generously at a time when Assam needs all the help it can get.

Karan who is no stranger to trolls on social media, was called out by a particular user for giving out hampers worth lakhs on his chat show while another user looked back at late Sushant Singh Rajput 's generous donation towards Nagaland floods a few years ago and compared then two.

A few others also targeted Bollywood as an industry for earning in crores and holding back from donating generously towards relief efforts.

While donations are voluntary contributions, Karan isn't the first celebrity to have faced unfair judgement on social media and he certainly won't be the last.
