Lata Mangeshkar hospitalised after testing positive for Covid-19, singer's niece says "She will be fine"

India’s legendry singer Lata Mangeshkar has been admitted to a hospital after she tested positive for Covid-19. Her niece Rachana confirmed the news of her hospitalization in a statement given to the press on Tuesday.

The singer who is 92-year-old is in the ICU at the Breach Candy hospital and is only showing mild symptoms according to her niece Rachana.

"She is mild Covid positive. Considering her age, doctors advised us that she should be in the ICU because she requires constant care. And we cannot take a chance. As a family, we want the best and want to ensure she has 24X7 care," Rachana said.

“She will be fine. But it is going to take a while because of her age. And also, COVID-19 takes seven days,” she added.

Lata Mangeshkar is among the many celebrities in the entertainment world who have tested positive for the virus during the third wave of the pandemic which has recently hit the nation. Apart from the singer comedian Vir Das and producer Boney Kapoor’s youngest daughter Khushi Kapoor are also reported to have tested positive today.

The tally of daily Covid-19 cases in the country has breached the 1.5 lakhs mark and restrictions have already been imposed in several states to curb the rise in case loads.

Lata Mangeshkar is one of the most respected singers in the country and is revered as the ‘Nightingale of India’. The singer has been active in the music world since the 1940’s well into the 2000’s. She has been awarded the Bharat Ratan, the highest civilian honour in the country and also has been the recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1989, the highest honour in the field of cinema in India. In her career she has also received three National Awards and seven Filmfare awards.
