    Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to arrive in Mumbai today evening to pay his last respects to late legend Lata Mangeshkar at her funeral.

    In early January this year, legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar was admitted to the hospital after she tested positive for novel coronavirus and was also diagnosed with pneumonia. After over 28 days of hospitalization, during which she went on and off ventilator support, the singer breathed her last today morning due to multi-organ failure at the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. Her health had begun to deteriorate yesterday, because of which she was put on the ventilator again. According to the latest tweet shared by ANI, Lata ji’s mortal remains reached Prabhukunj, her Peddar Road residence, some time back.

    At 6:30 pm today, Lata didi’s last rites will be performed with full State honours at Shivaji Park. A report shared by ETimes has revealed that a special stage is being erected at the Shivaji Park ground ahead of the funeral, where the late singer’s remains will be placed for people to pay their final respects. The Government of India shared an official statement, which said that a two-day national mourning will be observed today and tomorrow, during which the National Flag will be flown at half-mast throughout India as a mark of respect to the Nightingale of our country.

    Reports suggest that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to arrive in Mumbai at 4:15 pm in the evening today, to pay his last respects to the Swar Kokila. In a tweet posted by him earlier today, our PM had stated that he is anguished beyond words to hear about the singer’s demise. PM Modi had further shared that he has spoken to Lata ji’s family and has expressed condolences.

    Lata Mangeshkar’s demise has left a void not only in our hearts but in the entire nation. May the Nightingale of our country rest in peace.
